***Spoilers for "Chuck"*******
Last night I was watching the premiere of “Chuck” NBC’s new comedy/action series. It involves a “Geek Squad” type of computer help desk rep at a box store who accidentally downloads all of the Government’s National Security data into his brain when he opens an email from his old college roommate who has just been killed by terrorists. The Terrorists, the NSA and the CIA all become interested in Chuck.
The punchline/premise of the show appears when Gorgeous CIA Agent Sarah who would appear right at home on the arm of any of the incarnations of MI6’s most famous ’00 Agent attempts to retrieve the data sent to Chuck by trying to seduce Geeky Nerdy Chuck who still lives at home with his sister’s family. Sarah finds that the info is implanted in Chuck’s brain and tries to keep him out of the clutches of the evil Adam baldwin from "Firefly" who wants to lock Chuck up at the NSA.
All this time Chuck’s brain has been processing information regarding a Terrorist Plot on an American General who is in L.A. giving a diplomatic speech. Here is where the story loses me. These terrorists that killed Chuck’s Buddy and now want to kill the General are from:
A. al Qaeda
B. Iran
C. Syria
D. Libya
E. Serbia
If you guessed "E " Serbia you are correct. Serbia seem to be the villian of Choice in Hollywood these days from the "Sum of All Fears" to "Behind Enemy Lines" to "The Hunting Party" it seems to be OK to show Serbs as Terrorists. Can't show anyone from a known Terrorist Sponsoring Country as a Terrorist or CAIR will complain. Since there were no anti War rallies against the Bombing of Belgrade by you know who I suppose the Network execs think its safe for them to use Serbs as the bad guys though I can't recall a single attack anywhere by Serbian Terrorists outside of the former Yugoslavia.
